A man who was jailed for six months after pleading guilty to falsely advertising various online tickets, has been charged with further offences following reports to Action Fraud and the police.
The 25 year old man was initially arrested in March 2012 after an investigation by Greater Manchester Police’s Volume Fraud Team.
Whilst he was in prison another 53 victims were uncovered. These victims had all advertised on social media web sites wanting tickets for sports, music, comedy events and festivals. The man would respond to the adverts using various names purporting to be in possession of the tickets required.
He took payments from the victims in an account set up especially to obtain the money; however no tickets were ever available to be sold. In total he fraudulently obtained £5,476.00.
Action Fraud reports
Whilst he was on bail and towards the end of August 2012 reports received via the Action Fraud on-line fraud reporting tool together with reports direct to GMP revealed another 9 victims.
In October the man was arrested again and after interview was charged with 18 offences of Fraud by False Representation with a further 44 offences. He is due to appear in Manchester City Magistrates Court this month.
