Take care when using cash machines

24th September 2010

Plastic card holders are being urged to be vigilant before withdrawing cash following a number of fraud incidents at cash points.

Some card users have reported that their card has been retained at cash machines. Fraudsters have then retrieved the cards and used them to withdraw money from the victims’ accounts.

People should check to see if a cash machine has been tampered with before inserting their card into the machine. If in doubt, card holders should not insert their card into a cash point and withdraw cash elsewhere.

If your card has been retained by a cash machine, contact your bank immediately to prevent it from being used fraudulently.

To report a fraud, call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or use our online fraud reporting tool.
