Action Fraud is urging people to be aware of ID fraud in relation to payday loans.
Action Fraud has received an increasing number of reports from people who have had their identity fraudulently used to take out payday loans. Often the first the victim knows of this is when they check their bank statements to find repayments taken by a loan company for loans they have not taken out.
Action Fraud is warning people to be vigilant in checking their bank transactions regularly so that they can find out at the earliest point if money has been taken from their account to repay a loan. If you spot any suspicious transactions, please notify your bank immediately, and the loan company involved.
It may also be advisable to conduct a credit report search as well to establish if any other applications have been made. We would suggest contacting the three main agencies: Equifax, Experian and Call Credit.
If you have been a victim of fraud, report it online to Action Fraud here.
