A council is warning of a Council Tax rebate scam

The Council has received reports of fraudsters posing as officers from the Council Tax department who are contacting residents to tell them they may be entitled to a refund.

The caller provides a reference number and a telephone number to call to claim the refund of up to £7,000.

Dacorum Borough council is advising if you receive a call do not call the number you are given. Instead report it to the Police. Be cautious when giving any personal information or bank details to anyone over the phone and never disclose password type information, such as PINs.

If you are contacted by someone saying they are from Dacorum’s Council Tax section and you are unsure, call 01442 228000 to check they are legitimate, before giving any information.
