MoneySavingExpert gives identity fraud protection advice

MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis is giving advice about identity fraud on his website, including information about fraud cover available on different credit cards.

The MoneySavingExpert website explains what identity fraud is and answers some of the most commonly asked questions about identity fraud, identity fraud insurance and what protection is included with some major credit cards.

MoneySavingExpert’s identity fraud prevention tips:

  • keep your PIN safe – this is the easiest way for fraudsters to access accounts. Make sure passwords and PINs are not too obvious or easy to guess, eg relatives’ names and birthdays
  • use anti-virus software
  • use a shredder for destroying all paperwork with personal information on it
  • always check bank statements for any transactions you haven’t made
  • regularly check your credit reference files.

In a poll on the MoneySavingExpert website, 59% said that they had never checked their credit files.
