We are aware of fraudsters that are using our name to defraud victims out of money and personal information.
Fraudsters frequently impersonate organisations in an attempt to convince people that what they say is genuine. We have been made aware of various instances where scammers have been using our name to dupe victims.
In one case, fraudsters had contacted a victim purporting to be Jamey Johnson (former Head of Action Fraud) encouraging them to enter personal information into a suspicious URL. Other instances include emails and calls, claiming that Action Fraud can take reports of fraud at victim’s home addresses.
Action Fraud – what you need to know
- We do not visit victims home addresses to take reports of fraud, the official way to report fraud is online via: www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime or by calling 0300 123 2040.
- We do not investigate crime – we are a reporting centre and pass your reports onto the police. Find out more about the process here.
- We are not able to claim back money any victim has lost to fraud.
- Emails from us will always end in @nfa.gsi.gov.uk or @police.uk - any variations should be treated as suspicious.
