British Council cash prize scam

A number of residents have contacted their local council after receiving phone calls from someone claiming to represent the British Council.

The caller claims the call recipient has been selected for a cash prize. The caller asks them to give their bank details and then call a premium phone number.

Don’t give out bank details

People are being warned never to give out personal information to unsolicited callers. Fraudsters are known to use methods such as these to con people out of money and gain access to their personal information to commit identity fraud.

This particular scam was reported to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. Fraudsters such as these could target anyone from across the UK, so everyone should be vigilant about this type of scam.
